Welcome to the Honda Smart Home US, Honda’s vision for sustainable, zero-carbon living and personal mobility. When completed in early 2014, the Honda Smart Home US (HSHus) will be a “zero net energy” home, producing more energy than it consumes, including enough solar power to charge a Honda Fit EV battery electric vehicle.

As the project leader for HSHus the first question I am usually asked is, "Why?"

The short answer is that Honda wants to be a part of the solution to creating a zero-carbon lifestyle which includes not only transportation, but the footprint created by your home as well. Together our homes and cars produce about 44% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emission, which contribute to climate change. The Smart Home is a way for us to have that conversation, to demonstrate this zero-carbon vision, and to do some research on future technologies that will help us get there.

Honda Smart Home is not a futuristic sci-fi dream: most of these techniques we’re utilizing are available today, and the remaining technologies will be available in the near future.

Over the coming weeks and months we’ll share the details of our smart home design and technologies, and provide regular updates on our progress.

I’m looking forward to sharing this project with you.  Sincere thanks for your interest and your time.
